Balwin Headquarters achieves both Net Zero and 6-star certifications
The new Balwin Headquarters on 105 Corlett Drive has achieved a Green Star Net Zero Carbon-Level 1 certification. The project, a refurbishment of the iconic Creative Council building on the M1 highway near Melrose Arch, also received a 6-star certification last year.

Balwin Headquarters – Net Zero ambitions for a 6-star building
The new Balwin Headquarters on 105 Corlett Drive has been awarded a 6-star Green Star Office Design v1.1 rating – one of the first 6-star major refurbishments in South Africa. The project is a refurbishment of the iconic Creative Council building, located adjacent to Melrose Arch in Johannesburg.

In May 2020, The REID Lifestyle Centre achieved a 6-Star Green Star Public & Education Building (PEB) certification. Part of an upmarket lifestyle estate situated close to the Marlboro Gautrain station, the building is also targeting a Net-zero Carbon Level 2 rating.

New MDA Office is Net Zero Carbon early adopter
The new office for MDA Attorneys is one of the first buildings in the country to receive a Net Zero Carbon pilot certification. Designed by Activate Architecture, with Solid Green Consulting as sustainability consultants, MDA’s new home in Houghton, Johannesburg, is intended to give its users a workplace that both enhances their productivity and reduces natural resource depletion.
