Ecobank Harare: EDGE Advanced Preliminary Certification

Ecobank’s new headquarters in Harare, Zimbabwe has achieved preliminary EDGE Advanced Certification, marking a key milestone in sustainable development in Zimbabwe.

Ecobank chose the Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) as part of its commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency. The Ecobank HQ project is a pioneering development, aiming to achieve certification under an internationally recognised IFC-managed system. This certification will demonstrate that the building meets global standards for resource efficiency, delivering exceptional performance in energy, water and materials through high-performance glazing, solar PV, water-saving fixtures, and the use of locally sourced materials.

This achievement marks a shift in approach for Ecobank Zimbabwe, where sustainability is no longer viewed as an afterthought but as an integral part of the project’s design, construction and operational process. Key to this shift has been the adoption of a more integrated design approach, involving technical experts from the outset to ensure all systems — envelope, energy, water, and materials — work together to deliver performance.

The EDGE certification of the Ecobank Head Office highlights the company’s leadership in sustainable development, reinforcing its broader ESG commitments and supporting regional sustainability goals.
