On 15 October 2020, the Living Future Collaborative South Africa held its first online Net Zero event entitled ‘NET POSITIVE ENERGY’, which aimed to inspire industry professionals with case studies of super energy-efficient building designs supplemented by renewable energy, with the goal of adding value for building owners and end users.

Energy Efficiency: the way forward for Nigeria
On 29 August 2017, Nigeria’s first Building Energy Efficiency Code (BEEC) was officially launched in Abuja by the Federal Minister for Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN). Solid Green was commissioned as technical consultant on the project, and Director, Chilufya Lombe, spoke at the launch event.

Extensive modelling exercises were undertaken for a four-bedroom house on Waterfall Estate, Johannesburg – and the results yielded significant improvements in terms of energy and cost efficiency for this new home, with a 30% overall improvement in HVAC energy from optimising the building fabric.
